    Apologies if this has been mentioned elsewhere.

    Looks like we will have licence free OS mapping next year http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/8402327.stm should bring the cost of tracklogs etc down somewhat.

    will it mean cheaper/free mapping for users though? I use memory map, and I assume my map files can't just be used on Tracklogs etc.. so the retailers of digital maps can still charge you for the mapping data which is compatible with their software.

    i seem to remember seeing somewhere that the licence fee the likes of memory map has to pay isn't that great?

    Already free OS map usage and route plotting out there http://www.bikehike.co.uk, can plot routes and upload direct to Garmin gps

    Then again if people would rather use a limited but free service for mapping then MM and Tracklogs sales may decrease therefore they might have to cut the cost of their software to boost sales?
