One for the Shimano fetishists out there.

I’m running 2×9 with a 36t middle and no bash. The XT M771 direct mount front mech sits way above it, drops the chain and worse still, looks all wrong.

There doesn’t seem to be a (high) direct mount 2×9 mech available, but I notice the SLX range have numerous 2×9 options, just not in direct mount.

So… would it be possible to replace the (shallow) chain guide of the XT M771 and replace it with the (deeper) cage off an SLX M667 mech?
