Well looks like my ride this evening is going to cost me £££s.

Went out with a couple of friends as we do every Tuesday evening for a ride at the local trail. Stopped whilst having a quick chat looking over my bike thinking one of them had hold of it and BANG! My bike falls straight onto his forks causing a small amount of damage to the left side upper. Of course it was a accident but I do feel accountable and would like to put them right seems as his new nice Norco Sight 2 is only a few months young.

Where do I start? Do they look repairable? The damage is only small but I would say it has prob penetrated more than just the coating.
Can you buy just the left hand upper and get a specialist to rebuild them?
Can you buy just the uppers as a unit and get a specialist to rebuild them?
    New forks?

Smooth the coating down with fine wet and dry to remove sharp edges which may damage the seal.
Some people use nail varnish to fill the ‘hole’ and then wet and dry flat agin when fully dry.
I’d repair and leave until service time to make a judgement call on whther to change the uppers, but to be honest that’s not too bad, so should be fine as long as you repair and keep up to date with service schedules.

There is a tiny burr that may damage the seal but I’m not sure he would be best impressed if i suggested taking sand paper to his new forks no matter how fine.

Sorry I think my original post may have been a little misleading. I think as the forks are so new that it is only fair to have the repaired to’as new’ condition. I guess this would mean replacing the whole uppers? I have had a quick search online and they do not seem that readily available. I will get on the blower to Mojo and TK Tuning in the morning to see how much money they can relieve me of.

If you want to get them back into ‘as new’ condition, then you’ll need to replace the whole csu ( crown, steerer, upper) section- unfortunately it’s not possible to replace a single leg, so that will not be cheap. You already have received the advice of one of the best specialists in the country (have a click through to LoCo’s profile for his website)- I’d go to him first if you need to discuss it further with someone who knows what they are talking about.

How about a compromise and you offer to cover the first service for the forks? That seems a more than reasonable offer to me.
