[#5071324]

Hi all,

Just after a consensus on how much travel to expect once switched to the climb mode on a 2013 Fox CTD fork.

Ive splashed out on a new Canyon and having an issue - i can't really tell much difference between the three modes on the fork and can just cycle it to at least half travel without much effort in all three modes just leaning on the bars. I can feel a tiny bit more compression damping but not enough to do anything. Googling seems to throw up a few issues to say the least with CTD forks.

I'm asking Canyon but wanted to ask what a normal (I.e working) climb mode should be like.

Thanks!

There is a significant difference on the ones I have ridden.

On mine the adjuster does not click into place but does make a noticeable differnace as I turn it round
In fact my 160 34 will lock out totally ( not sure there Ment to )
But no matter what the setting they do Somtimes blow throug there travel

Just be aware if you have the trail adjust ( black) it only affects the trail or middle setting on ctd

If it happens to be the remote one, you'll probably just have to put some more tension on the cable. The fork should pretty well lock out.

I had the same issue until I adjusted the cable tension

It's a remote one so I'll wang the tension up and see if its that.

Thanks chaps

I had exactly the same on my Talas 32 - could hardly tell the difference between any of the modes.

In the end I sent it to Mojo to have a look at and they tested it. They kindly replaced the stock tuning spring from the medium to the firm and that made a huge difference.

I was told that climb mode won't lock the fork out. There'll still be a fair amount of travel in it. If in doubt, give Mojo a call and speak to one of the guys there.

I've a rear CTD shock - there are noticeable differences bit are not vastly different. To be honest I often get to the top of a climb or the bottom of a descent and realise i'd forgotted to switch modes. The trail mode seems pretty good all round really - virtually no pedal bob and enough of plushness on the descents. I'm still getting used it though and settling on the settings.

Its teh fork, i can tell the difference on the rear shock.

I wasn't expecting a lock out like previous forks but was expecting it not to use 50-60% of the travel when I got out of the saddle.

So say 20mm of travel and that's it.

I'll take the remote off and use the control manually and see if i can get it to work, if not Canyon have said they have no bikes in stock to replace it but will cover all expenses and pointed me at Mojo which is fair enough.

There seems to be a problem with the switching on all 2013 Fox Evolution and Talas forks. The German magazine Mountain Bike had 3 out of 4 Evolution equipped bikes fail and the Zesty Talas under review also went kaput.

You wont read much about it in the UK MB press. They are more concerned with keeping their high roller advertising accounts sweet IMHO.

Resurrecting an old thread here...

I wasn't expecting a lock out like previous forks but was expecting it not to use 50-60% of the travel when I got out of the saddle.

So say 20mm of travel and that's it.

There is pretty much no difference between Trail / Climb modes on my 2013 Performance shock. Loads of pedal bob... so there is definitely something wrong.

Not sure whether to take it back... probably should but it means I'll be without my bike for a couple of weeks no doubt.

Mine is basically a total lock out on the rear of my anthem. Don't need it and never use it either, it stays in trail all the time

This is a well known and quite common issue with the 2013 CTD forks. You should be able to get it fixed under warranty without any fuss.

It's not the fork by the way... It's the shock.
Still a common issue no doubt?

I'm totally underwhelmed with my Fox CTD. I've had a play with sag settings, volume reducers and have pretty much exhausted what I can do with it. I'm going to pack it off to MoJo to give their tuning service a go to see if I can get it to feel any better, if not it'll be up for sale. It just feels a bit dead.

I cant really tell a huge difference between the T and D modes, but the C mode is pretty good for climbing. Its not lock out, but stiff enough to so bobbing is not noticeable even when out of the saddle.

Only had one ride on my new ctd forks but you definitely feel the different modes, c virtually locks it out

I haven't been able to find any pressure guidance for the rear shock. Instead the Fox site just recommend setting sag and going from there - which means I don't really know what the max pressure is.
I'm fairly heavy at 210 lbs which actually works out to about 210 psi to get 20% sag.
Is it possible I've blown something which has killed the descend mode?
