A lot of them sound far too practical to be true follies. A good folly is eccentric, pointless, and completely unsympathetic to the landscape.

I go past this one (Stratton's Folly) quite often on my rides. Story goes that the owner was an admiral who hoped to be able to see his ships in the Thames from the top (and couldn't)...

But it is made from wood

I like that actually. It wouldn't look out of place at Little Sparta

Who cares if it's late and well over budget and has handgun silhouettes on the outside. We are stuck with it now and what happens inside is the important bit.
Speaking of late and over budget...

Hey Chapaking I know it well. Bit of a dodgy road to ride along don't you think? (no pavements
)I always think it's a bit wonky and call it the leaning tower of berkhamstead

He may even have been a decent MP, there's a dirty great wall around his (ex) house, which apparently got built when the locals were down on their luck.
his pyramid is an an 'olde Englishe churcheyarde',but it's surprisingly tranquil little place and it works

enfht - The word on the street back in the late 80s was that Adam Ant lived there, never found out if it was true.
Riding down Bucks Alley was a bit dodgy after the first bit of snow on Saturday, for sure!

I forgot this one. Its a stone 'tree' with a folly on top. Lanrick near Doune. Or up near Doune as I like to say.
