    First part is

    Airport security staff won’t let anything through that they consider dangerous – even if it’s normally allowed in hand luggage.

    It’s also a no for walking poles or fishing rods

    So I’d just be putting them in the hold. In the end the first statement is the key, even if you are allowed it just takes one security person to decide no and your in for a heap of hassle. These days my hand luggage only contains stuff that is 100% good for the cabin. Put the rest in the hold and relax.

    Whatever you do, don’t approach security with a tent pole in your pants, very much frowned upon.
