I've got a geared Roadrat, currently doing great work commuting and taking kids a couple of miles along the canal to nursery, using a Hamax smiley which gets left with the kids before I shoot off.

I'm thinking of going fixed again, but wondering if this is daft because of not being able to ride out of the saddle when the bike seat is occupied? Anyone done this? And if you have, what kind of brake setup did you ride? (before anyone calls the social services, I would use at least one on the front!)

If you're not 100% comfortable with riding fixed gear don't do it, I've been riding fixed for a while but still get 'fail moments' now and then. Fixed is silly really..

Fixed by your self is mental, when carrying kiddies it's just plain wrong
