A friend has been of sick. They asked a friend to deliver a continuation fit note to his employer. The friend handed the fit note in to the receptionist. His employer is now saying they didn’t receive the fit note and he is not going to be paid for that time. Where does he stand? what should he do? Should his employer have contacted him when he didn’t turn up for work?

    thanks

Get a copy/rewrite of the note, hand that in, get a signature.

Surely if they were given a fit note they were capable of getting to work or at least in contact to be able to work from home???

As above.. Most modern GP systems allow fit note reprints….

    It’s a non issue really.

Not fit for work does not mean in a coma unable to perambulate yourself and a Dr may be in a better position to decide fitness for work than you…..why have i needed to say this?

    Get another one?

    Can they prove they attended?

If they refuse to pay him as they are where should he go from there?

    Thanks…

Deal with that if/when it happens – I suspect if they were refusing to pay while holding a valid note it our be a straightforward legal matter.

    This happens all the time.
We’re forever providing duplicates for ones that have been lost in the post, by benefits agency, by employers.
    It’s no biggie.
Just call the docs and ask for a reprint.
