I will be out for a few hours or so and feeling fine whilst out and after I get home, no problemss. After a few hours and all the next day I will feel really rough, like I have a heavy cold/sun stroke – thick head, heavy chest, hot head but cold hands and feet. This happens every time I go out and has usually cleared up by the following day. I think I drink plenty when out and after and eat after also. Any one experience similar. This has been going on for nearly 18 months – GP appears clueless. Anyone experinced similar or have any ideas?

Sounds like dehydration? Try drinking plenty after (more than you usually do!)…. my mate suffers in a similar way (well….did), but but he uses the re-hydration drinks after a ride now (within 20 mins) and BINGO! No issues now…

Itheisinger = how much is plenty and what sort of rehydration drink does your mate use?

I think a guideline is something like 1 litre/hour, but this will probably depend on your size etc.

I take 3 litres (sometimes water, sometimes Torq or whatever) for any 3-5 hour ride, but know I could take more. However, I know loads of bikers who eat and drink very little and appear fine – even the big lads. It’s a weird one, but IME I need to drink a fair amount regardless.

EDIT: BTW I don’t know if dehydration is causing your problem here – could be something totally unrelated. Perhaps check on a medical forum?

Yeah check a medical forum…..and it will tell you you have cancer!. I agree does not really sound like dehydration, sometimes I dont drink enough and the only side issue I get is strong yellow piss! associated with mild dehydration. Suggest you go to the quacks or ask to see the registrar nurse….worth checking it out ?, I imagine if you feel Ok, and you are fit during the ride chances are you will 99% fine.

Alternatively replace water with a big sack of Gatorade or the like, drink loads of it during the ride and see how you feel thereafter.

Try a different doctor, or seek out some sort of specialist. I’ve noticed some of your symptoms when I ride on very cold nights – chest and head cold etc, coughing and feeling very bunged up the next morning (but only in the morning). Your other issues sound more circulatory, but I’d know more about a fish supper than the human body.

    cold hands and feet.

    after exercise.

That in my very narrow / personal experience is a circulatory issue.
Your doc is the first port of call. The second is more exercise. Then better diet etc. I’m only slowly getting there.
