The Little Boat by Kathy Henderson. Lovely.
Anyone who likes Judith Kerr (or children's books) should go to seven stories in Newcastle

"who flung dung" a tale of betrayal and revenge about a monkey who gets a poo lobbed at his head and goes to investigate. my 4 year old thinks its brilliant, especially the final poo throwing shoot out.

"where the wild things are" I loved it as a kid and my son loves it now.

We like all the gruffalo books, also room on the broom, Snail on the tail of the whale, in fact all the Julia Donaldson books, for reading to children.

I loved Heidi and black beauty as a child, when I was able to read to myself.

We all had the Richard Scarry books, they were great. Ah such lovely memories.

The Caterpillar and Gruffalo are big with my two year old – Room on the Broom is also a favourite

6 year old now into Horrid Henry – sadly, he appears to regard him as role model, so his grandparents have just got him a Famous Five book to see if that gets his attention.

My wife had never heard of Richard Scarry, so I'm glad to see others have fond memories.

This is probably what gets read the most in our house at the moment though…

    A-ha!
    O-ho!
    A trail in the snow!
    Whose are these footprints?
    and where do they go?

Pretty much anything by Julia Donaldson and Alex Schaeffer is great, I actually like the Gruffalo's Child more than the Gruffalo though! Can't wait for the BBC version at Christmas

My nephew is also a big fan of Harry and the Dinosaurs: http://www.harryandthedinosaurs.co.uk/

Richard Scarry was my favourite when I was little.

Dr. Suess and Winnie the Pooh were what I read most to my son when he was small.
