Bontragers latest range seem to come up big

I run a 2.4 Conti Mtn King on the front and a 2.2 Race King on the back A great combination.

2.4 racing ralphs are monster big, bonty 29er specific tyres (29-3) are good as well. The thing is you don't need a huge tyre for grip as you have a longer contact patch on a 29er for traction. I run a 1.9's on mine at the moment and they're fine in loose sandy gravelly shite and the peak district. Go fat for low pressure comfort or if you are a big unit

Go big if rigid - RR 2.4 in summer, Ardent 2.4 or Stout 2.3 in winter for me. Narrower if using sus forks.

heads up while the 29r boys are on.............
got a ardent with a small tear in the side wall (will patch or stitch)
£10 if anyone is interested.Posted 1 year ago # -
2.4 RR's if it's dry and they'll fit in your frame. As tazzy said they're mahoosive.
2.4 Ardents with EXO sidewalls are a better bet for mixed conditions and still big.
2.3 Stouts are good in muddy, rocky and rooty conditions and a bit smaller again, but still a fair size.Posted 1 year ago # -

I have Nevegals 2.25, Weirwolf 2.55, Ardent 2.25, Rampage 2.35, Mud X 2.0, The Captain 2.0, Big Apple 2.35.
Weirwolfs are big but more of a summer tyre, Big Apples are the biggest but for road really, Nevegal, Ardents and Rampage are all similar but i never really got on with the Rampages. The Weirwolfs are on my inbred and fit just fine.

I'm going the other way, lightest tyre I can get away wit that are still usable. Did have some furious freds 300g for a 29er tyre....bloody terrifying on the chase in the gravel corners
I've settled for kenda karmas at the moment 495g for a 1.9 that comes up more like a 2.1.

Jeezo AJ and there's me all chuffed with a 2.35 on me Tallboy, I'll ride with you's all yet before the winter closes in again!
Posted 1 year ago # -
2.55 Weirwolf here also, run at 20psi for the rear and 18psi front - though mostly running an Endomorph up front - with a 70mm stem also, steers like a dream with a short stem.
You might also consider wide rims..... 35mm or 50mm
