If I got out for a couple of pints (no more than 3) after work but don't want to let it interupt my exercise regime, apart from the obvious coordination and dehydration issues, would I be wasting my time doing any exercise afterwards? Or will I still get the benefit?

Why would it possibly be a waste of time?

You will benefit. Just do not do it after a really heavy sesh as your kidneys will not thank you.

I wondered if it would do more harm than good, or if it was harder for you to recover if you trained with alcohol in your system, so much so that it was actually detrimental.

did a 10k xc run after a few cheeky post-work pints last week 😯 was ok at first, then 5k of pure hell, then ok on last leg. felt fine next day didnt seem to cause any issues apart from nearly puking on the run itself… i imagine you might be fine as long as you're not doing a road ride! 🙂

I've never raced sober, I can't feel the pain

    It never harmed Tony Adams.

I doubt you'll get the same benefit, if the training matters then don't drink beforehand.

Watch dehydration. Keep drinking as you exercise and you'll be fine!

    Keep drinking as you exercise

Red Bull & Vodka seems a suitable choice

It might help if you're a long way from the bar when they call time.
