I picked this up off Gumtree today, the nice man even painted it for me.:D

Its making me very happy. Still no small flatscreen tv or beer fridge though. Id settle for a calor gas heater just now, its baltic. In fact thats next on the list.

Dont suppose anyone could give me any ideas for a tool board? I fancy having the bike specific stuff on the wall.

Merek, where did you get that rubber matting from?

Its EVA foam, the stuff with the yellow trim is from Machine Mart. It was about £27 posted.

Ive since found this which is the same but cheaper, its ideal and you get more in the pack too.

Away at work right now, but return happy in the knowledge that there is a Man Cave project in the offing due to a kitchen refurb leaving behind much spare old units and work tops and ply wood and… and …STUFF!

A vice is probably one of the best additions to my man-cave, I don’t know how I managed for so long without one!
Not a biggy either, just a wee 1 ton Record affair, but they really are a massive boon for certain jobs 😀

For the tool board I recommend getting a board of MDF and attach it to the wall. You can then use various mounting methods like hooks and screws to hand tools of it. I even have a magnet board where I can hang diagrams and recipes for all my bike related goodies. Looks pretty nice too

Got a type 25 in the garage. Was my fathers. He died 36 years ago.

Needless to say, it still works perfectly.

To merak: why have all the bikes on show got thin wheels?
I visited the record factory once when it was still in Sheffield. To watch the two pieces of vice which include the jaws come out of the sand casting and be picked up by a bloke and sanded on a belt sander was humbling. These things weigh, depending on the vice model as much as a dh bike, and as they had just come out of the sand they were hot, damn hot. Oh and he was on piece work.
I found one in a skip, only got it home by resting it on the saddle of my bike, which it dented. Got it working, gave it to a friend as a gift and it remains unused as his bench couldn’t take the weight…

I bought a house just the other day with a Garage… new kitchen going in, old kitchen going in the garage.

    Can’t wait.

I got a vice for Xmas, but don’t really have a bench to put it on. Anyone recommend me
A small one, or anywhere you can get second hand-used?

Can you screw a vice onto a metal topped Bench or does it have to
    Be wooden?

I’ve got one in the corner of the garage ready to be refurbished. It needs stripping and painting, but more importantly needs a new set of jaws. Anyone know where I can pick a set up ?

Merak. Nice vice but you seriously need to ‘man-up’ your man cave

    Clean white units
    Tidy
    Organised
    Skinny bikes only
    No oily rags
    No dust
    no organised mess
No piles of knackered spare parts that you are keeping ‘just in case’

Come on man, you are letting the side down! 😉

Thread resurrection. Ive been tinkering of late as it goes, fettling if you will, as is my want. Ive made a few additions/changes since first setting about the garage. (Hence forth to be known as mancave)

The most important being a mini calor gas heater which is excellent at warding off the worst of the chill. It turns out I’ve been spending too much time and money in my mancave, I care not a jot. This is what its for!

To those who have queried my knobblie tyres credentials, I do own a fat tyred bike, but its wrapped up in shrink wrap in the loft to keep it clean. To get it dirty would have me apoplectic.:-)

I would still like a beer fridge and bar stool, climbing walls no use to me.

You’d never tell I have OCD, would you?

Must tidy my garage ,far too much caRp in it preventing me from doing real work.
Main issue is a multigym I inherited that gets zero use but takes up a whole load of space.
