Heading to Boot in the Lakes this weekend with the Mrs and baby before her maternity finishes.

Won’t be taking the bike but does anyone any recommendations for this area of the Lakes? Not an area I’ve been to before so would be good to know what our options are if the weather isn’t great.

Anything worth visiting in the towns of Ulverston, Broughton in Furness etc. other than food & essentials?

    Thanks

You can always go for a jaunt on the railway, then a nice stroll back, stopping somewhere for a spot of lunch. There are a few decent pubs

Muncaster Castle is also quite close and worth a visit if your all into that kind of thing. Second the railway. Wastwater is always worth a visit with the camera.

If the weathers nice and you like the beach head over to Drigg/ravensglass and have a wonder along the coast there. You can incorporate that with the Railway.

The Boot Inn – good food, great beers & fantastic whiskies 🙂

Brook House, The Woolpack, The Boot Inn – 3 pubs to visit in that order 🙂

Boot is one of my favorite places, where are you staying?

We stay at the camping and caravan club site and will be going again in July, can’t wait.

If you fancy a drive to Amblside but don’t fancy hardknott pass there’s a lovely back road.

There’s lots of easyish walks in the area which run along the valley. There’s a nice walk up to Blea Tarn. Buy all the food you need before you get there as shopping is limited, although there’s a reasonable shop in Gosforth.

Once we’re in Boot we don’t generally want to leave to go to the bigger towns on the West coast.

And yeh the railway great for the kids.

Baby is only 11mths so won’t be interested in too much just yet. If the weather is good we’ll some a couple of walks with pub stops. If the weather’s bad we’ll have to just find a pub then 🙂

We’re staying in a cottage at Bridge End Farm.

    Thanks for the suggestions.

I have a soft spot for Broughton in Furness, go for a coffee in the village bakery & cafe (just been there this morning, closed on Mondays, though).
A few nice walks in and around Eskdale Green incl the Japanese Garden.
As said above, Muncaster, Ravenglass, and the railway worth a visit, there are remains of a Roman bath outside Ravenglass, but they are remains, nothing much left sadly…
