On Katie and Abigales Christmas list for 2003 was shore. the wood was purchased and the building started. It was built in 6 ft lengths so it could be carried into the field across from our house and back at the end of the day

As the girls grew it was altered to jumps and it was on these that they and myself progressed on

The shore has been at the top of the garden for the last 2 years, apart from 1 day when Abigale used it for roller blading.

The girls decided to give it a good send of on saturday night, along with Katies GCSE course work

They carried it into the field where they had all that enjoyment on it, stacked it high and when the flames had died sat roasting marshmellows on its embers

Probably the best £50 we have spent on a Christmas pressent for them

I feel old now. Last time I seen them the eldest was about my eldest's age.

Yeah what a cracking send off.

Bit sad though, like an 'end of childhood' type moment. 🙁

Elfin
Felt a bit like that on Saturday.

Make the most of it Drac, time has past so fast. Katie is now in 6th form and well on the mend from her operation and cant wait to get back on the bike. We all missed the Alps this year due to the operation and my injury. Have booked with BV for next year.

Cracking send off and I'm glad you liked it and everything,

but is it just me thinking...

what a waste, I'd love a set of ramps like that...

No! It certainly blimmin isn't! I keep collecting wood, but never get the time to do the building. I would've hired a van and driven miles to collect that! 🙁

set aside the same amount of time you were prepared to drive for and build something with what you already have then 🙂

Though about advertising them on here FOC but was advised that due to the fact that they were own made that we could be liable for any future injuries.
They wernt just used by us,friends have been and used them, and when they were out all the local kids could use them as long as they had their parents permission and wore a helmet. Some weekends there would be 20 to 30 kids using them. Always supervised.

Should have at least kept one ramp out of the fire so you could set it up at the edge and jump over the flames!

🙂

Still have my kids little ramps in the garage - feels a bit daft going out on the drive on my own 😥 though the one does get brought into service as a frame rest when hammering headset cups into a new build (quite often then 😆 ).

Thats the world we live in Tony.
It was your inspiration that lead to having them built, All these years on and you are still their hero.
We couldnt leave them in the field for the local kids for the same reason

I used to have a little ramp for my BMX until some ***** visiting a neighbour drove over it and broke it when she came up our drive to turn around 🙁 Should have left a present on her bonnet but I was too polite.

Your ramps looked a lot fancier, would like to do something for my nephews but worried that they would use it unsupervised and break something.

great post tracey.

yeah, it's a shame you couldn't risk letting them go to someone else to get use out of but the pictures still tell a great story, and everyone enjoys a bit of pyromania from time to time!

made me recall a bunch of us setting up ramps round the back of the estate we lived on when we were kids, lighting a fire in front of it and "jumping" over the flames (more like riding through them!) on raleigh strikas, tomahawks and grifters. totally unsanctioned by parents, obviously...
