Our Astra estate is perfect for bike toting duties .But being a 1.6 sxi i don’t reckon it’s that fuel friendly .45 mpg max i’ve been told .So what’s the alternative that doesn’t involve carrying bikes on racks (i’m SO passed that ! )

How much you spending? What sort of driving is it (town, motorway etc)? How many miles a year etc? Have you calculated the actual mpg you’re getting(fill car reset trip and then divide fuel bought to refill by mileage to get actual mpg), if not then i doubt you’ll be as high as 45 but if you are the swap probably isn’t worth doing unless your car is giving trouble? The focus tddi (old engine) that i got from a guy on here is currently giving me 60mpg driven carefully.
