Bought a second hand single speed bike with CK hubs.

Is there a way to tell visually if the rear hub is single speed specific or a cassette hub with spacers/single cog on?

At a guess, it'll either have a "normal" size freehub body or a wee one

It looks normal sized…..I was hoping there would be some sort of marking rather than having to get the chain whip out to check.

Are CK hubs any lighter than proIIs?

EDIT: thanks for the post, I was assuming when you said normal sized you were talking about 'girth' rather than 'length',

No, they are a fair bit heavier.

    166/336 for Kings
    185/285 for Hope

Pro 2s are 32g lighter. Oddly Kings used to be 295g claimed rear, which made them slightly lighter. They've got heavier despite not changing!

Where did you get those weights from?

    Hope 20mm front – 175g, rear QR 274g
    CK 20mm front – 231g, rear QR 322g.

    Manufacturers sites, QR for both.

Interesting – they are 'actual' weights on mine for comparison…

FWIW, having had a King front hub, there is no way in the world it was 166g. Sounds like some creative weighing on their part 😀

Interesting – when you say actual weights do you mean before you built them or are you subtracting hub/spoke/nipple weights to get your actual?

Glad I asked as I was planning on getting the CK's rebuilt as my XC race wheelset, but if they are heavier than the current proII's seems little point.

Nope – actual as in bare hubs…
