Love the one with the millenium falcon-esque lights across the back. Geek-tastic!

Seems like it could get expensive quite quickly !

I like that… but as jambalaya says, it has the potential to dwarf bikes in terms of costs given the crash potential (and likelihood)

Looks like a pretty good place to actually ride a real bicycle..

Next step – arm them! (with paintball guns or maybe just laser tag?)

Think I’d want a full-face helmet – those electronics can be sharp at speed!

Ooh! Ooh! Where can I get one of them?!

Should be fairly easy to make a crash cage of some kind to protect the props. You could also make it shaped to roll the right way up on landing so you could carry on.

    For all your quadcopter needs:

Usually available as extras depending on the quad.

I suppose though, they have stripped them down for more speed while racing.

Of course that wouldn’t be legal in the UK 😈

It could get very expensive very quickly if you tried it with this one:

I have no idea what it cost, I didn’t ask the owner, but it’s a hexacopter, carbon blades and structure, so probably not a budget model… 😉
[edit] That was nuts! But terrific fun, the challenge of flying such things around a complicated course, through trees, with a camera on a drone, at some speed, using a headset, must be considerable. I can see it catching on.

They need to introduce some beams across the course ala death star. Make use of the 3d aspect of the flying.

Quadcopters can be quite cheap to build, especially if you get bits from Hobbyking. If you’re handy enough to construct the drone, a decent transmitter is usually more expensive than the motors, electronics, rotors, chassis material and a few LiPOs.

Edit: giving them a stable camera platform free from vibration artefacts does get more expensive though, as does FPV hardware. But the most expensive stuff seems to be in your hands or on your head, generally.
