Planning on riding Guildford – Shoreham on Thursday.
Anyone ridden it recently? What’s it like generally? Are there plenty of signs to keep you on the right trail? Areas to watch navigation?

Haven’t ridden it for years, but it used to be a complete horsed up mudfest and a waste of time.

Rode some if it a few weeks back – its smooth and flat. A great big long fire road basically. There was a point a few miles outside Horsham where you get to a crossroads and there’s no sign. Was a left turn – you can’t go too far wrong if you take the wrong turning though, you’ll realise pretty quick you’ve gone the wrong way.
If you get a chance to stop at the pub at the Horsham end – the food is great 🙂

the north downs are hilly and fun, the south downs are hilly and fun. in between is not that hilly and not that fun. enjoy!

Did it a few years’ ago for charity… flat, smooth, well surfaced. Only challenge is it’s quite long.

It’s about 35 miles, they’ve recently surfaced parts of it with a sort of gravelly stuff, so it’s not that muddy, it’s not interesting though, but quite nice if you want to switch off and just pedal.

There’s lots of pubs en route, although the Thurlow Arms at Baynards closed last year, which is a shame, as it was good!

There’s a couple of short road sections, I wouldn’t say it’s well signed, but it’s not difficult navigation.

I once did it in a loop from Dorking – road to Bramley, Downs Link to South Downs, SDW to Devil’s Dyke, road to Brighton, and train home. Good mixed day out, but obviously not exactly singletrack.
