Hi all, I am looking for advice.

Can you change a double crank to a triple? And is this easy?

I have FSA tempo entry level.

Not if it was designed to be a double as it will only have a spider capable of carrying two rings.

You would need a new crank, front mech, shifter and associated cables etc.

If you have issues with the gearing you could consider changing the rings on the double.

with so many people going the other way I reckon if you stick a wanted ad up you’d get some decent repsonses, espicially if you’re not bothered about having deore/slx level etc.

Don’t think you strictly need a new cable as it’ll be the correct length for either a double or triple mech.

But in reality it’s probably worth doing…

    worth looking at super compacts.

smaller bcd so can run smaller gears, 30:46 or similar.

    velo orange
    cannondale (maybe only 2nd hand)
    middleburn
    sugino all offer something.

or ghetto a triple and run middle and inner. I got 42:30 on my gravel bike and i like it so far (not extensive testing)

Thanks all, it looks like I will be changing the lot, but have seen some cranks already on here, so that’s a bonus.

    cheers

If you are lucky, your shifter may be switchable from 2X to 3X. If Shimano, look for a little switch or screw underneath (RTFM before fiddling with it, though, as things can break if you try and change it with the shifter in the wrong place)

    E.g.
