Finally decided on a dog and just reserved a Parson Russell terrier pup (long legged Jack Russell), pick him up later in week, and get a day pass to go riding in the peaks on the way there so everybody wins

The guys at Shred Magazine have a Parsons Jack Russell called Spike. He’s an amazing trail dog and all round nice kinda hairy little fella.

Get some puppy training classes booked now and take the whole familly. A lot of effort early gives a massive reward later.

My OHs folks have just got a new work dog, Australian Blue Bobtail.

They’ve got a long legged Jack Russell too, great dog, daft as a brush.

Edit to above, it’s a cross.

Here’s a quick one of Meg the Jack Russell, she’s just shy of 2 years old but still acts like a pup..

And the pair of them wrestling!

    Excellent choice of dog,

Ive just re-trained one for a friend who was having a few problems, amazingly strong willed dogs.

A few things I noticed about the breed.

    Totally fearless.

Chickens, Squirrels, Ducks and Rabbits, are all fair game.

    All holes will be investigated.

Once Mr Fox is located, you may find your dog becomes totally deaf.

Get used to the dog coming back with that wired look in its eyes. And sometimes feathers in its mouth.

They always come back. You may have to wait a while but they do return.

    Water.

I go fishing, and the dog came once,

I unlocked the gate let him of his lead, where he ran 30 feet down the bank jumped off a 15 foot dam wall into the water below, i then spent the next 50mins coaxing him down to the other end of the lake so i could reach down and grab his collar

    Flooded rivers, same as above.

Will happily follow you on a bike ride with almost no training.
