Looks more like a scratch, If it was a crack it'd be bigger than that IMO even if it was starting

weird place for a scratch tho and also on he edge of a weld 🙁

Difficult to say. I'd say scratch, though it is an unusual place.

Get a permanent marker and put a clear line at each end of it and see if it grows

I will do that and also measure it

I could get the NDT guy at work to check it for you using eddy current if you're ever in the Reading area, but seeing as you're in the Peak Distict unlikely!

TCut has removed a flake of paint – no crack 🙂

Ex sadly. I've had to resign due to my assumption on the above picture being incorrect 😐

didn't think so mate.you sometimes get a tiny groove between the weld and metal when the welds a little to hot and that can catch dirt.

Easier to use Ardrox spray penetrant and developer. Most welding shops should have a can or two lying around. It'll show whether or not its a crack and how severe it is.

    How does it work?

You spray the penetrant on and leave to soak for a few minutes, clean off the excess then spray on the developer. If it is a crack it will show up as (usually) a red line in the developer. The deeper the crack the thicker the line. It's used for checking critical welds on pressure vessels and aero structures. Better for surface cracks than ultra sound.

If it ends up like this yer fecked!…I dont think its a major crack though, looks like a slight flaw in the tube to me,Its not a stressed part of the frame either so nothing strength wise to worry about. 😀
