    Hi all,

Im looking at stripping my frame down and having it powdercoated but im not sure if refitting the bearings to it afterwards will damage the paint??

is it best to get the frame coated and get the bearings pressed in by a shop or can you buy the tools??

how do i protect the holes where the bearings go during the coating process??

    cheers

A decent powdercoater should mask off any holes for you, especially if you show them which ones. A small bit of fine wet and dry to remove any small overspill and sharp edges and you are ready.

Put the bearings in the freezer (inside a ziploc bag if you are worried about moisture) before you fit them for 30 minutes or so. They should just press in by hand then, otherwise use a socket the same size as the outer race and tap gently to seat them.

Took all of 30 minutes to prep frame and install all the bearings in a super 4 last year using this method

if you are powder coating you must stop the coat getting on to the bearing surfaces as cleaning it up will be a nightmare.
