Would I be an utter tit running 26″ wheels and forks in a 27.5 frame until I get the funds for the right kit? How bad could it be?

    You’ll be fine.

26 goes into 27.5 with 1.5 left over. Don’t they teach maths anymore?

    Surely the answer is 1.05769.

ahh but then you have to divide by 2. Radius innit!

But, it’s not actually 27.5 is it? The actual rim diameter…..

…oh wait, I’m boring even myself with this.

If in doubt stick some high volume tyres on it and you’ll be fine. I was round a friends house last week and he is running 26″ wheels on his 650b Pivot. He had jsut gotten a 650b crest laced up with a 2.35 Magic Mary on it (a big tyre) and it stood maybe 4mm taller than the 2.35 26″ WTB vigilante.

Yep, just get the biggest/tallest tyres on there and call it 26+. It is the next big thing.

I’d say it completely depends on the frame design (the design may have a higher BB/or lower BB already) and other factors- tyre choice etc.

It works on mine but I can see it now working on others. You might also find that if you have a longer A2C forks it’ll help with the BB.

I bet some frames just wont like it though. What bike/frame is it? I did this as I couldn’t afford to buy everything in one go so I bought the forks first, then the frame and the wheels last (which are in the shed as I prefer it 26’er for now).

Easy answer, borrow hora’s 650b wheels.

Just be aware that the BB may well be lower than intended (depending on the tyres you fit)
