If i swap my QR out for a nutted axel to stop wheel slippage, will my chain tugs become surplus to requirements or is there a valid reason to keep using them?

I think tugs are specific for QR or solid axle

the surly tugnut has an insert that allows you to use it on both solid and QR axles.

I use a QR with a surly tugnut – the surly stops the axle moving forward on the drive side, while the O-o disc mount inside the rear triangle stops the brake pulling the non-drive side back – so I dont need a bolt up hub.

Keeping a chaintug on there makes tensioning the chain a bit easier and gives you a handy bottle opener if it's a surly or spot one.
