“Chains and belts are for losers”, or this is how I translated my Japanese acquaintance’s remarks on his steed in Tokyo this evening. Maybe shaft transmissions aren’t new to STW but it’s the first I’ve seen.

No more typing; my hand is still as broken as it was in my last post (and yes, I needed a new, longer, cast).

Used to see the exact same drivetrain on a guys commuter bike some years back.

The bike rental scheme in Reading uses shaft drive bikes like this…

Loser will take on whole new meaning if he carries on using that cable lock attached to…er… nothing.*

Also, there’s gotta be a sneaky ninja in the shadows holding up the bike in that top pic…

Edit : *TIC I doubt anyone lifting that would get far on foot in Tokyo.

    Isn’t it on everybody’s? 🙂

To be fair, it has changed (and is still changing) massively from the ugly concrete dump image it sometimes has (and I had until I worked there). 100’s of millions of £s are being invested in building development, and it is actually the most affluent city outside of London according to a recent study.

    Yep I’ve also seen 2WD!
