I want to print out a few of my digital pictures but not sure whether to buy a photo printer and do it at home or go to a professional photo / printing place and get it done there?

I’m not a pro and I’m just looking for reasonable quality pictures, not absolute best money can buy. Most of the photos were taken either with a Nikon 9MP bridge camera or Pentax 16MP DSLR. I would like prints ranging in size from standard photo size to A4, nothing bigger.

My current printer is broken so I need to buy a new one any way so wondering if I should get one that can do photos and print them at home. Do these create good results? and how much do I need to spend to get good results? A quick look on ebuyer says photo printers cost anywhere from £50 to £500?

If I take a professional route are high street people like Boots and Jessops OK or should I find a specialist?

    Many thanks for your help

Definitely get them done at a pro lab, such as photobox. Doing it yourself is expensive, once you figure in the cost of a high quality printer and materials.

DSCL are super cheap and great quality. If you’re serious about it you should get a screen calibration system as well.

Oh and download/use their colour profiles.

Home printers are a PITA IME.

had quick browse on the online photo places you guys recommended and looks like its all pretty easy and straight forward. Prices are very good too, much cheaper than doing it at home. I think that is the way forward.

Photobox are very good. Yesterday I printed out a few on the self-serve machines in Boots, which were pretty good actually.
