  • DH/enduro tires that won't break the bank?

What are the best value enduro/dh tires? I’ve been looking on chain reaction etc and most seem to be £50 plus for the better compounds. I already have some performance Muddy Mary’s but I didn’t like the hard compound. What are some enduro/dh tires that have a decent rubber compound that won’t break the bank? Sorry for another tire thread but I couldn’t find any about good value rubber.
    Thanks

Specilized tyres. £30-£35 for decent compound tubeless ready tyres.

On-One Chunky Monkeys? They’re my all year tyre of choice. Tore one in the Alps last summer, but the repair is holding up.

+1 for Specialized. Butcher up front, Purgatory on the rear both Control casing, tubeless ready. Less than £60 a pair.

hmm the Specialized look interesting, thanks. Would you say that is a good combo for the Alps? I’ll be going to Alp D’Huez so mostly loose, dusty trails with some rocks and will these be able to deal with wet days ok?

I recently changed to that Specialized combo and I’m still surprised how much more grip I’ve got in all conditions. Previously had Fat Albert front and Smorgasbord rear.

I likes me the Specializeds. But, Controls aren’t that tough, they’re a superb trailbike tyre but there’s a sacrifice of strength for their lightness.

I don’t know Alp D’Huez but I’ve taken out Butcher SXs and DHs to Les Arcs area and they were bang on. I’d not choose the Control version for uplift stuff if I had much choice. Really it is 2 different jobs.

Last time I went to Alp D’Huez I used Specialized Clutch SX tyres. They’re somewhere in between dual ply and single ply.
They worked well, but I only managed half a day’s riding before I crashed and smashed my thumb to bits!

Just moved to specialized butcher front and purgatory rear from on one chunky monkeys.

In my opinion the on one’s are the best value for money tyre out there. If they rubber stamped them tubeless ready I’d stick em back on in a heartbeat.

For the record they held up tubeless but I wanted to be 100% they’d hold onto the rims

Magic Mary on the front and a Rock Razor on the back. £30 each from rose.

Massively grippy front tyre and a fast rolling rear tyre that has huge side knobs.

Plus £7 p&p, mind. Still, good deal that, cheers- I’d been struggling to find the 26 non-sg version at a sensible price with bike-discount being out

OP – we rode a lot of tyres between us in alp d huez last year and the only tubeless ones to hold up were super gravity schwalbes.

I quite fancy a magic Mary pair or front with Hans damf rear.

Another vote for the German sites….I like my Schawble tyres but won’t pay UK prices.

Been really impressed with my Magic Mary and want yo track down a pair of super gravity versions for uplift days.

Been running the Specialized combination for a few years now on most of our bikes all over the UK and in the Alps. Will be running the control versions for this years Alps trip. Not had a problem with them or the Enduros they replaced.

On One have got High Rollers Super Tacky/Maxx pro 26 x 2.35 tyres for £19.99 for Dual ply and £13.99 for single ply at the moment if you don’t mind that they are wire bead and a tad weighty.

On One cheap Maxxis HR or Minion or a Chunky Monkey in any combo would be on budget

They could even be used for just ordinary mountain bike rides!

+1 for bikecomponents.de, excellent service. Did the on line question thing to make sure they could get the magic mary 26″ SG vertstar within 2-7 days as stated and they confirmed it in stock with supplier in ……English (my German only stretches as far as reading and buying bits on line).

All arrived quickly with dhl. Also stocked up on tubes for the kids 26″ bikes, cheap continental tubes. Got some freeride ones to go in their back tyres for our alps trip.

You Can the site language to English there is no need to understand German

Can I now add if you’re going for the specialised tyres avoid the control casing. Side walls are made of paper on my 4th sidewall puncture in as many rides. Pressures were decent they just don’t seem to be very resilient at all.
