I need to set up a desktop client for google calendar, mail and contacts on a Windows 7 laptop.

If I’ve read it correctly, to use live mail and or outlook I’ll need to sync using an intermediary in the form of microsoft’s live cal – does that sound right?

So, I’m looking at Mozilla Thunderbird + Zindus (for contacts) + Lighning & Provider for Google Calendar add-ons.

I’ve had a play with this setup (on a mac) and all seems well, but are there any alternatives / gotchas I should consider?

Google calender sync should (maybe?!) sort that out for you, it works ok, but not perfectly. I use it between my phone/Gmail/Outlook calendar at work anyway.
Contacts sync-ing will require something else though, i’m not sure that they do anything for that, yet.
