  • Decent Schweinhaxe in London?

The Dusseldorf thread has reminded me how much I love Schweinhaxe.

Basically big pork knuckle cooked on a Rotisserie so it is succulent and covered in crackling. Usually served with either Bratkartoffel, spaetzle or dumplings and with a side of red cabbage or sauerkraut.

Usually try and have at least one per trip when visiting Germany.

Any recommendations on where to get one in London?
I have tried Katzenjammers and the German beer place near Tower Hill, but neither do it.

Any suggestions? With the amount of German Expats in the UK there must be somewhere.

    One good deed deserves another.

The Delaunay, Aldwych. (Used to do it, at least!)

Bierschenke, London Wall. Good German grub, but not 100% sure if schweinhaxe is on the menu or not.

This is the one near Tower Hill, which is also opposite my office.

Have found the food to be disappointing previously.

Yes. That is the Tower Hill one. Went there for a haxe once, it was more of a soggy ham hock.

Plenty of schnitzel and sausage at the German Gymnasium, but sadly no haxe.

Keep the suggestions coming though. There must be somewhere.

the only other places I know are Herman ze German which is just ze Wurzt and Zeitgeist in Vauxhall where I’ve watched football and had lots of Tannenzäpfle, and probably a sausage covered in curry sauce.
