So, a couple of years ago after a presume attempted theft of the bars and stem from my commuter, following some advice off the forum, I dripped some superglue into the heads of the stem bolts, reassured by comments that “if ever you need to get them off, you can use superglue dissolver”.

Fast forward to today, when I want to swap said stem and bars to a new frame.

Used superglue de-bonder – nothing. No dissolving of the hardened glue.

Tried acetone (nail polish remover) – nothing.

So, does anyone have any ideas how to remove the hardened glue? 😕

Heat will soon get rid of it. Have you got a hot air gun?

Don’t have hot air gun, but do have soldering iron. Will give that a crack.

Do it outside as the fumes are a little unpleasant and dangerous. It should be all brittle by now so a screwdriver and small hammer to chip it out will also work.

Next time use a drop of nail polish and drop a small ball bearing into the hole. Much easier to remove when the time comes!
