If the weather’s good (!) guided canal boat trip. If bad, moules et frites and loads of insanely amazing Belgian beer. I found the lace museums boring (obvs)
Just wander about. It’s beautiful. You could do the tourist thing and go on a boat ( which is ok) followed by a meal and a few beers. Go up the clock tower. Get a horsey cart ride thing.
Alternatively just get rat arsed on strong beer.
DO NOT BUY IN THE MAIN SQUARE. Robbing bar stewards.
Go up the tower. definitely.
Boat tour if it’s nice. definitely.
Sit in the blazing sun drinking lovely beer, not realising how utterly plastered you are, stand up, fall down. “Borrow” a bike, and then fall asleep on the floor of your expensive hotel room. Probably not.
We went last weekend! Didnt really know what to expect as I booked late and just wanted to go somewhere close to Calais. Watched In Bruge the night before to get an idea 🙂
Lovely, lovely city. The “Venice of the North” apparently. We got a canal boat tour on the 2nd day and that was well worth it. I think it was 7euro per adult and about 4 for my lad. Only 30mins, but you get some commentary and a lazy way to see some of the city. The Horse+cart is very expensive. Wanted to go up the Bell Tower, but we gave up after queuing for too long and my lad kicked up. The market square has a Xmas market and ice skating rink. The market is pretty lame, with a load of tat, but has some Gluhwein and beers, the better market is just down the main high street and has some foods stalls, but again, not very big.
Definitely try some beers. I had the Zot stuff which was good, but my fav was the dark “Donker” beer.
