I live at the southern end of the Dales and don’t really know the north that well.

Next weekend I’m going to be riding home (Skiptonish) from Leyburn and want to get in some of the good climbing at the northern end of the Dales.

    I’m thinking Leyburn > Reeth > Tan Hill > Thwaite > Buttertubs > Hawes > Fleet Moss > South.

What am I missing? Am I doing Buttertubs the wrong way round? What’s Oxnop Scar like?

    Ta!

Careful + on the brakes as you descend into reeth, its like a roller coaster.

buttertubs north to south is ace….the descent down to hardraw is fantastic.
oxnop scar is very steep climbing out swaledale, but very scenic.
    done it in both directions.

thaty is a good old route you have planned….enjoy

    Thanks chaps.

After a broken scaphoid earlier this year I now descend like a jessie.

It seems to be a trade-off between Tan Hill and Oxnop via Wensleydale. I reckon Tan Hill wins, though am happy to be advised otherwise!
