No, but they’ll wear out really quickly. Just put an old road tire on it.

    More tread = More noise

and if , like a muppet I am err know

you set up indoors on a wooden floor you want as litle noise as possible

    or very good earplugs

It’s in a cold shed so doors will be closed and music loud.
Is there a reason the tyres would wear more on a turbo than the road? If I do more than half an hour it will be a miracle.

Vittoria turbo tyres are only about £15 online

I do have a turbo specific tyre but can’t be arsed to change it all the time.

Turbos put significant constant deformation into the tyre, this can heat them up and cause them to disintegrate. Its not the tread wearing in the way it would outdoors.

That’s what spare wheels are for

Your tyre will get very hot. The cross tyre is soft and will wear out very quickly.
I used to use old road tyres. After I wore all of them out I bought a specific trainer tyre and that’s a lot better and quieter but expensive if you hardly every use the trainer.

I wouldn’t do it unless the rollers are covered in Englands finest mud. 😕

CX tyres will have crap traction with the roller so you’ll get some jerky goings on if you try and do any sprinting or whatnot.

I got a knackered old wheel from a friend and use worn out road tyres on mine. There’s a LOT more margin for error on how worn your tyres can be if they’re just going on the turbo.

this is often repeated. but is it true.

The tyres on my turbo have never been hot. This is trainer specific tyres/ normal road tyres/ cheap £10 tyres.
