    A bell.

No, seriously, all the cars drive with their horn wired to the accelerator and all cyclists constantly ring their bells. It doesn’t help much with the holy cows / dogs / chickens wandering in the road but it will make you feel better.

One thing to leave behind – fear of traffic. Riding in Kat is great fun, as long as you follow the rule – just ride directly where you want to go but NEVER make eye contact with the moped rider / car driver / mini bus packed full of locals / 18 ton truck charging at you. They will drive past in front until a carefully judged point* when they will start to dodge behind you.

Take a handful of low-denomination US dollars for tips before you get some money changed. Hold on tight to ALL your stuff when you leave the airport. Close your eyes for the full duration of any car journey. Try the Himalaya Ice Tea at Rumdoodles on the roof terrace. Don’t overstay your visa, they get upset and the fine’s quite steep.
