I'm going to cycle 4 miles to the shops, I'm going to wear a pair of corduroy trousers, a cotton t-shirt, a fleece and a lightweight down jacket - oh, and a cap.
Should I be worrying about not wearing technical fabrics?

Cycling down the shops, will I die?

Helmet?
What tyres?

You will die. The weight of disapproval from the STW hordes will crush you.
corduroy? What were you thinking

As long as you don't mind freezing to death in your own sweat you 'should' be fine!

don't forget trouser clips
Posted 5 months ago # -
Oh my God I am so glad I don't live anywhere near you to have to suffer such an outrage.
Posted 5 months ago # -
Yes, always trouser clips.... on a Brompton too!

What about a fully tooled up camel back and 3 litres of water.?

Watch out for the stabbings.
And the asthmatic reportings. Or something.

Ear aP I've somehow got a Brompton innertube here, d'you want it?
Oh, and Kultur soon? Postmodernism at the V+A....
Posted 5 months ago # -
Thanks elf, but I got a "pack of 4" for the weekend you know?
Kultur sounds good, can't cope with too much Ettore Sottsass though.Posted 5 months ago # -
I hope you opted for the latest cords with a clickfast liner to ensure you don't get a sore arse.
Posted 5 months ago # -
So what the bloody hell am I sposed to do with it then?
No-one's forcing you to look at Sotts ass.

corduroy will surely get ruined very quickly by a bike saddle, I wouldn't thats all I'm saying.
Posted 5 months ago # -
I'm pretty sure that your fleece and down jacket could be classed as "wearing technical fabrics", so you've failed. At everything.

Is corduroy the one that looks like a McCoys crisp ?
If so, you should be fine and dandy.

Fleece and down jacket? Where the heck are you? Shirt with rolled up sleeves and cut off jeans here - positively tropical

You'll need at least a
Multitool
Chain tool
Powerlinks
Puncture repair kit
Spare innertube
Various nut, bolts, shims ect'
Foil blanket
Tyre levers
Pump
Shock pump (even on a brompton)
Zip ties
Gaffer tape (round pump)
3000 lumen light
Mobile phone
Credit card
Cash
That should do it, unless you go further than the shop,..then you'll have to tool up proper like,....Posted 5 months ago # -
Suggest you also ask about the conditions on the footpath and exactly how long it will take you as an individual to get used to flat pedals.

That should do it, unless you go further than the shop
Like doing a 9 mile lap as part of a team at some 24hr race for example

Well, that was fine - although I nearly lost it on a couple of corners when the s-bag was loaded up with groceries. Richmond one way system was pretty gnarly too.
Oh, my trousers don't seem to have worn out with the extreme 30 minutes of cycling I've just done - I obviously should have been wearing some made by endura instead.Posted 5 months ago # -
HE'S SURVIVED! YAY!

I think a nice pair of tan brogue's would set your outfit off nicely; and just remember ALL car drivers will be out to kill you.
Posted 5 months ago # -
tan brogue's
You could buy the pair that get advertised daily in the classifieds...
Posted 5 months ago # -
30 minutes to do 8 miles? How many times did you have a STWer go past you on a chainless bmx?
Posted 5 months ago # -
Tan brogues? They're only for weekends - Chelsea boots for weekdays.
