Help please, got a couple of bikes that i’ve decided i should probably insure only worth a grand or so each and just wondered who the STW collective used. Many thanks in advance

M&S as part of the general contents insurance.

House hold insurance for the bikes under £1k
E&L for the full sus. at about £10 a month.

Thinking about insuring a new bike (just over 1k). Would i need specialist insurance to cover crash damage? Can’t say I’ve seen any house insurance policies that would cover that, and after having a crash last year and forking out for repairs, want to make sure i have crash cover this time round.

M&S cover up to £4000 a single item under contents and you can get cover away from home with them

Specific cycle insurance is very expensive

Never seen any cover that would cover crash damage

from my experience, House contents with “away from home” insurance will only cover general items and “Bikes up to £500”. I think they are clued up to the exotic, expensive bikes that more people now own, so you need to get specific cover for those kinds of bikes – in addition to house contents – and it isn’t cheap.

crash damage that would be pricey for an extreme sport surely?? Why not just put £10 or whatever you can afford into a savings account every week/month??

Doesn’t accidental damage = crash damage?
Must admit I’ve only looked at E & L so far, will have to clarify what accidental damage actually means.

Just got building and contents insurance with More Than, they want £68 off me for the extra bike cover, covers any bikes worth upto £1500 each (to a max claim of £5k)home and away, just have to be locked up and no specfic lock required. Is also a new for old policy. Think i’ll be going with them for it, thanks all and hope this helps others out.

On the contrary, I claimed £1k on mine for a new frame when I crashed it, and I presume the accidental damage cover under my current M&S policy is the same. Yep sure enough “Loss or damage to your contents when they are temporarily away from your home anywhere in the world.”, which is pretty much the same terms as I previously claimed under.

Your experience is clearly pretty limited.

The benefit of M&S is that you do get true accidental damage and a decent limit (£4000), plus you are actually better insured all round than if you went with the cheapest specialist insurance.
