Rode Cwmcarn today, not been for a while but its turned into the 'Glentress' of Wales, overbiked people in body armour riding normal trails! And full of braking bumps and ruts. Just an observation, as long as people were smiling that's all that counts, move along.......

tell me about it, i saw a few months ago a group riding the twrch in full body armour!!
as for the braking bumps i can only think of the one corner on the last sectionPosted 1 year ago # -
We went today. Enjoyed the riding, esp the DH runs but it does seem to be populated by fairly ignorant people these days - starting to rival llandegla for that imho. I guess that's the joy if being so close to large populations.
Ne'mind - good day on the bike all the same.

We had fun - that is all....
Did you see that guy not wearing a helmet doing the DH in a Burton snowboarding hat 8O, I bet he got a fair few words from teh STW massive on the way round?

Not ridden it for a long time but taking a mate over in the morning, be good to see how it's changed though. Trail centres will always attract certain types of riders though.
Far better natural stuff about anyway

Solamanda does have a style(less) of his own!Posted 1 year ago # -
i think people probably only ride the xc trial in bodyarmour, beacuse they have proabably gone for the dh and fancy a change, for a couple of runs.

It's up to people what they want to wear or not - just leave em be ?

i like the idea of wearing googles with a non full facer.. Think I may try that myself
although it would probably be with a pisspot.

Imagine wearing a full face lid for an XC trail?
I do like Cwmcarn but find I have to start at 8am to get a decent run at it.

K has to wear that to disguise his sheer radiator to the power of sickbag skillz innit.
Either that or it's to stop mud getting on his beard.

Nice pics! Especially http://www.flickr.com/photos/sheldona/5312227471/
I've started wearing a full face, goggles and knee and elbow pads on regular trails in the Surrey hills. I found my riding wasn't progressing before I reverted to wearing this stuff. I'm now much more comfortable really leaning the bike over and letting it drift, kicking up some roost, hitting awkward jumps etc. I had been plateauing, and adding this level of protection has helped me to turn things up a notch. That's one way of justifying it. Partly it's that it's a bit wet and in places unpredictable at the moment, I didn't previously feel that comfortable hooning it.
Of course you just clip the helmet to your backpack for the climbs.

i remember when cwmcarn was a single dh run, with that swoopy bit at the bottom going up the sides of the banks through the mulchy dead ferns, what fun it was
and i hardly ever saw anyone else, though remember seeing the guy who skidded his car into mine at that gloucestershire 4x and wrote my car off... no memories like that for the glentress motorway, let me tell you!

I wear a deerstalker and welder's mask combo, lederhosen and a boob tube
My riding has progressed immeasurably

Are you ever going to man up and ride DH?

I rode the Twrch yesterday...
Is it ruder and more ignorant to ask politely to get through, sneakily over/undertake or sit there not letting someone through?
