So, I’ve built up my Longitude, and it’s all looking good, but I am a little concerned about the clearance between the chain and the tyre in the lowest gear.

Now, the bike hasn’t been ridden in anger yet as I’ve had the sniffles, so it might not be a problem at all.

But it is very tight – if I could get another 5mm I would be happy.

I’ve offset the crank by placing the spacer on the drive side.

Now, are there any other ways of offsetting more?

I’ve looked at the Surly OD cranks, and they will do the job, but wondered if there were any alternatives.

And I want to run a double, so single ring and a 42 tooth isn’t an option.

    Any ideas???

    Cheers,

    Paul

Close. Very close indeed. Only in the lowest gear though.

No pics in exactly the right gear I’m afraid. Here’s a pic in another gear.

I will try and get one at the weekend. Hopefully get to ride in anger at the weekend and find out if it really is an issue.

This is why the new Boost 148 standard is coming. Chainline 3mm further out.
It’s also why #battlecat uses a 150/157 rear hub and an 83mm BB shell (-:

1x would help too. And you can go down to 26t now.

    From the Genesis website:-

“For those wishing to go the whole hog, the frame and fork will happily accept a 29+ setup (3.0” tyres on a 50mm rim) although you’ll be sacrificng the wide-range 3x front compatibility for either a 1x or offset 2x setup.”

Is that what you’re doing ? Either way, those rims look wide and if that is ‘plumping up’ those tyres even if they’re not 3 inch then it’s looking like an offset 2x setup as they advise – whatever that is !
