At the risk of self-immolation, the cover of Hope There’s Someone on The Voice tonight was fantastic, better than the original.

Only just heard this one on the free cd with this month’s Uncut magazine, took me a while to realise who did the original…

Difficult to argue with metalhead’s post, I’ve got four versions of that song, the original Fred Neil, Eddi Reader, Tim Buckley and Billy Bragg; Eddi’s version was the first I ever heard, when she sang it at the Fleece & Firkin in Bristol many years ago, and I’m torn between hers and Tim’s, but I think his just edges it.

Another cover of a Tim Hardin song. It’s Bobby Darin, shortly before his death. He used his light entertainment show to promote a love for music, chess and left wing politics.

I’ve always admired Layne Staley’s voice and I think this cover does no disrespect to it whatsoever. Brilliant.
