    Several months ago, I posted on here that my company wanted me to go on a short term contract with them, and asked for advice on pricing. Four months after the contract was supposed to start, they’ve just started to think about it again, and have suggested a year’s contract. I’ve been told by a colleague (who is being promoted to be my boss in April) that I can practically write my own contract, as they have been told to reduce payroll headcount but haven’t found anyone to replace her.

    I think I’ve got the obvious bits covered in my planning, but is there anything I’m missing?
    Current salary + holiday pay + pension contributions + healthcare, and then add some on for the payrise they didn’t give me last year “because you’re leaving”
    I will ask that the company continue to book and pay hotels for me (I live in Sheffield and they are in London and Edinburgh) and will expect them to reimburse train fares as they do at present. I would want a break point after my current project is finished, after which it would be a month’s notice if I wanted to leave.

    I’m also thinking about going down to a 4 day week so that the 5th day is either working for someone else or looking for other work to try to reduce contract of services/contract for service issues, and would like to try to get alternate weeks working from home (I’m currently doing one or two days a week from home, but the travelling is getting to me, so I’d like to reduce it.)

    The only other person who could currently do my job is about to have a lot more on her plate, and the company has been trying to replace her for a couple of months without success, so I think I might be able to get away with these requirements – do any of you think it sounds unreasonable?

    (Alternatively, do any of you recruitment specialists have a handy SAP HR super user, ideally German-speaking, looking for a job in SW London?!)

    I do the same. 3 bits of advice.
    1. Don’t try to take the piss. You are never as indespensible as you think you are;
    2. Get a good accountant; and
    3. Read about IR35

    Good luck

    Edit: 4. Enjoy the feeling of freedom of not ‘working for the man’.
