Randomly browsing YouTube for funny music and it dawned on me that comedy and music is tricky to combine. I can only think of three bands that make me chuckle.

1: Flight of the Conchords

2: Rubber Bandits

3: Arrogant Worms

Any other good ones that I’m missing?

Tonetta makes me chuckle. Nearest to a novelty act I can stand 😀

Mostly sexual, but this clearly not

Defo Steel Panther. Very rude, but oh so very clever.

Not a band obviously but Tim Minchin has done some great tunes

I'd say Steel Panther are a parody band, rather than a comedy one. It's a fine line though, Spinal Tap put it all into perspective...

I like The Duckworth Lewis Methid - although they are more humorous than outright comedy.

There's never been another Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band.

Not set up as a "comedy" band, but Ugly Duckling have some superb humour in their stuff.

See also "Eye on the gold chain".

Another that falls in to that category is IAM.

"Attentat II" or "Harley Davidson" also from IAM, clever, funny stuff.

UD are just a great underrated band and brilliant live. I’ll check out some of the others. Although Tap, panther and GLC all seem more like parodies imo

The Amateur Transplants always make me laugh.

They are definitely ‘amateur’, but quite funny even if you’re not medical (I’m not, wife is).

You’ll never be able to listen to any of the songs they’ve re-done the same way again.

Corky & the Juice Pigs.

You can add just about anything by Weird Al Yankovic in there as well.

My brother finds this solo guy funny - I can’t remember his name, but he I recall one song about a man with only one testicle...

Edit. It’s Stephen Lynch and th song in my mind is Half a Man. Not my cup of tea.

😉

GLC are fantastic, we saw them at T in the Park on the same day as Wu Tang and they weren't just funny, they put on a better show.

I saw the grumbleweeds at the height of their fame. I subsequently decided that comedy and music should not mix.
With the obvious exception of Dread Zeppelin.

Glad i am not the only one that likes comedy bands/artists. Some parodies are better than the originals too 😀

Bad News - weird how a comedy show spawned a band that went on to play MOR.

Steel Panther I see have already been done but isn't there a vid with Sarah Silverman in where she deliberately misunderstands 'death to all but metal 'as 'death to all butt-metal'?

Also Rubberbandits mentioned earlier but my fave is Dad's best Friend

"My wife sells cheese on the Internet
I think about her sister when we're intimate
Her family and friends, they don't like me anymore
'Cause I threatened all her brothers with an antique sword"

Might suggest The Macc Lads, but I guess it depends on how you read their intentions as to whether they're funny or just crass...

An acquired taste.

And not actually a band.

I love John shuttleworth and HMHB.

We saw the Cuban Brothers at Beautiful Days festival. They were excellent. The rain was pissing down and the crowd were staying there pissing themselves.

Mighty boosh did some brilliant comedy music.

Funniest and filthiest band I've ever heard are Dove @ seven, but they seem to have been expunged from the internet

I can't believe nobody has posted The Macc Lads.
First band that came to mind and they still crack me up.

I saw Frisky and Mannish do Kate Bash at a late night show, it was their whole set- ridiculously ballsy considering the joke only works if you know both Foundations and Wuthering Heights resaonably well- not sure how much crossover there is there! So I think there were only about 3 people who actually really got it but we had a good time.

The Lovely Eggs.
Not really a comedy band as such but their subject matter is always prone to make me smile.

Saw them live at the Dyfi Enduro/comedy festival in 2015 and they were epic!

Opeth’s singer/guitarist Mikael Åkerfeldt does stand-up routine between the songs.
