Iso Propyl Alcohol, or acetone, or ethanol (be wary, getting clean ethanol is difficult in the UK), basicly any of the common water soluable solvents.

Soapy water will do, all youre doing is removing any dirt and grease from the surface.

Acetone would be the last thing I’d clean a carbon fiber frame with, given it is a solvent for the resin.

Pure ethanol is booze. You can IIRC get the pure stuff, but it has tax on it the same as regular booze, so it is a huge amount of money. It may also be difficult to source and buy as a regular Joe.

Meths is about 90% ethanol and 10% methanol, with other stuff in it to make it taste very bitter and be coloured. I think it is probably fine for this application, especially if buffed afterward to remove any dry residue.

Isopropyl is good stuff as it is pure, as opposed to the corrupted hotch potch that is meths. Everyone should have isopropyl.
