Just checking before I spend my meagre pennies…

No problems with sticking 2 “10 speed” chainrings on an old “9 speed” XT crank is there?

Do I even need to change the chainrings? (I have a couple of never used 9 speed ones in a box somewhere)

FWIW I’m running 1×8 Alfine at the moment.

Running 9sp TA chinook on my 2×10 set up no probs. also run a shimano 9sp ring on 1×10 no probs.

From what I have read on here, 9 speed rings are fine, same width as 10, apparently its the outside of the chain thats changed?

A guru will be along in a min…

Cheers, I’ll just give the 9 speed stuff a go. Now all I need is a wheel, cassette, front and rear mech, and a pair of shifters. Nearly there.

I’ve done something smiliar expect I’ve gone 2X9 speed on a three speed XT Crank put a 28 on the “granny” 40 on the middle and nothing on the outer. Just had to use shorter chain ring bolts and adjust the stop scres on the derailer.
