Does anyone have this turbo? Is it any good? Would I be better off with rollers at £138?

    Elite Supercrono Turbo

Or JetBlack Mag Turbo at £114

    Jetblack rollers £138

Or Tacx Antares Rollers at £149

I’d stay away from the Tacx ones, I’ve got them and they have the following issues:

    1. The bearings become loose in their housing which makes them extremely noisy, so much so it puts you of using them.

    2. The levers that lock the sliding arm in place slip so the front section is very slightly out of square dues to the tension of the rubber tube pulling the middle roller back.

Both these problems can be fixed; the first one with some thread lock and the section by putting some sand paper between the plastic locking lever and the frame.

When they do work they’re really good and the first time on them is a real eye opening. Unlike turbos you can’t switch off as you have to concentrate on your riding position.

jam bo tbh at 100 it just isn’t worth it for me, I’m exeter so unless passing I have to take time/money to collect (time is very valuable). I’d rather pay 20 quid more and have free delivery, brand new so no warranty issues and I like the magnetic one. You can get the cronofluid ones new from wiggle for 157. If you want to be more amenable like £50 then I would be interested.

eyerideit – thanks for the tips. I’m kind of shying away from rollers. I love the idea but I reckon if I’m indoors I’m going to want to read or watch something so bolting into a turbo makes more sense.

**pulls up chair to watch opportune thread posting**

I was going to ask ‘rollers or turbo’ assuming a similar financial outlay.

Are rollers that hard to ride on that you can’t watch a bit of telly whilst on them?

    That is an interesting question…

fair enough. £50 is too low. No hurry to get rid but they are gathering dust in the shed.

I am in no way associated to Jambo, but the Elite Elastogel (if its the same one I got from Wiggle for £140) is very good.

Its very quiet, all you can hear is bike noise, and the resistance is great. IMO for the money very GVFM

Rollers are less boring and more ‘engaging’ than turbos, but you could definitly watch telly whilst using them.

The first few minutes on rollers is fairly squeaky-bum’, the first couple of sessions are ‘interesting’, but after that you just get on and ride. And they improve your riding-on-ice skills no end 🙂

Rollers everytime for me over the turbo. Haven’t watched TV on them though, mostly because my sessions are structured so no time to watch TV.

Have the Tacx ones (never had any issues with them) and the Elite Arion with resistance. Love them….mostly look forward to training on them (except at the moment when i’m on day 13 of being stuck inside due to ice/snow)

Rollers are a lot easier now we have STI shifting, I remember a few heart stopping nearly off the rollers when reaching down to shift

also currently thinking rollers or turbo, as a way to do a quick early morning cardio session….

however the only ‘road’ bike i have is SS, would this be very limiting?

I can’t see why, track bikes are all SS and fixed and they use rollers all the time to warm up

You can watch TV but they require a lot more concentration than a turbo. A momentary lapse means you can wobble and you don’t want to do that.

If you’re good on them you can even do this

Sadly I’m not so it’s both hands on the bars for me.
