Now I know its good.... but apart from Mbmb who dont currently have a group when im off out there can anyone recommend any guides or other operators in Chamonix valley?
Seen the guide book btw, so will look into that

Out there 10th -17 July. Into all riding, epic days out, long technical descents, some DH. Willing to pay of course...

i thought that almost all of the trails were strictly off-limits to les anglais sur les velos during July et August...?
some kind of local law, drawn up by the angry mayor, enforceable by the jondarms.

If you can get a lift pass you should be able to get to a few trails, you will be able to get a lift pass at le tour, as the downhill courses are accessed from there and it opens up a whole load of options, most out of the way of hikers and such like, you can also try les houches, where you can have loads of fun, also pila is only an hour away, always good for a day out.

There is a bye-law.
It isn't strictly enforced. The sheer scale of the place means that the trails are pretty empty even "in season". I used lifts at the 5 main ski areas with no hassle. The popular hiking trails aren't particularly suitable for biking anyway. French people have a "laissez faire" attitude to enjoying the mountains, as long as you show some consideration and manners nobody will give you much hassle.

Ah but Guides and Operators will be for it (whether they have french equivalence or not) if they get caught acting on a commercial basis on closed trails. Also, dare I say it in a nanny state way: Insurance could probably be deemed invalid.
