Hi, I’m trying to finalise switching my Trek 9.8 to a 2×10 setup, and I’m having trouble getting the front mech sorted.

I’ve a Control Tech Double Play chainset and a Shimano M985 E-Type mech, however the mounting plate (the removable part of the mech, with the hole for the bottom bracket to screw through) fouls the chain. Looking at it, it has a much more pronounced step than the previous (M960) mech’s mounting plate – there’s even a spacer between the plate and the mech where the front bolt goes through.

Putting a spacer between the mech and the bb bearing or the mech and the crank arm doesn’t seem doable as the bearings need the axle to be the right length.

Anyone know if the Control Tech cranks have significantly different offset to the chainrings than the equivalent XTR (Googling suggests 0.8mm difference in chainline, I’d have thought I am out by 3mm)? Or are the e-type plates available with different profiles (nothing seems to come up when searching)?
