Any recommendations for my 2009 Five? I'm plan to be running a single ring in the Alps in a few weeks.

Obviously there's no ISCG 05 mounts on it so I'll be needing one that attaches by the bottom bracket.

    Cheers

I use a blackspire stinger with a front mech. Only about £25 too, provided you have a front mech you can use.

I've got a stinger with 22/32/bash and it seems good so far after 2 rides.

Thanks chaps but I was thinking of running something more substantial for this trip. Possibly something like the Blackspire NSX-C4.

My chain would fall off at the start of each run last year in the Pyrenees so I want to make sure it's not going anywhere this time.

Adjust the limit screws on your front mech? Cheap at least.

Fair enough, ran the stinger in Les Arcs last year and never had an issue.
For the price of the NSX-C4 id personally get the stinger and a bashguard as you've then something to use back here with a 2 chainring setup if you want to, but the nsx will be perfect if thats the way you'd prefer to go.

Dual ring – pointless for downhill
NSX C4 – Fairly shite chainguide

Most of the people who use chainguides on here just mince about doing xc so dont really have a clue.

But seriously, looks at what downhill bikes use, tend to be E13 or even mrp. Get one of those. I had an LG1 which worked well, but one of the older mrp ones are nice and quiet.

I've got an e13 srs guide for sale for £30 if you want a cheap option. It's the full bash guard e13 dh chain device designed for single rings and never once let me down in 18 months dh riding and racing. Only changed as i put a lighter one in my new bike. Mail in profile if interested.

Like this but with a black bashguard

The Gamut devices come in the full range of mounting flavours, so that would save you faffing around with E13 adaptors and the like.

One of those would be my choice for bomb proof simplicity, or the new Straitline one, but it is a bti pricier.
