    Hi everyone

I’m changing the drivetrain on my Alfine 8 speed hub bike. I can figure out which chainring and sprocket to buy, but which chain do I need? Obviously not a 10 speed. So what? A 9 speed one?

    Thanks

Eight or nine speed will fit. 8’s are usually cheaper so that’s what I’m using. Don’t recommend you bother with Sram PC1 full width 1/8″ either. I tried these & they seem to wear out very quickly & don’t stay on the sprockets as well as a normal 8 or 9 derailier chain.

As above, apparently its designed for a normal 8/9spd chain so no need for a 1/8th chain.

Just to reiterate… Don’t get an 1/8″ SS specific chain, they don’t stay on the cog very well. It’s designed for a normal 3/32″ chain, such as an 8 or 9spd chain. I tried a SRAM PC1 briefly and it was crap, switched to a cheap KMC 8spd chain and all my problems were solved.

what about a 3/32 single speed chain like the KMC 610?
