We are getting a cat today from a rescue centre. The cat is one year old.

Looking at per insurance prices (which are cheaper than I expected!) I am going to get a lifetime policy. The choice is between £1000 annual limit on vets bills and £2000 limit. Difference in cost is £1.30 a month. Cats are pretty robust but would guess a £1000 would get eaten up pretty quick by vets.

I’m thinking the £2000 limit is worth it for the price difference. This is with animal friends pet insurance. Anyone got any other suggestions or experiences?

Our cat is insured with Direct Line. We adopted her a couple of years ago, and she had a few fights with other local cats, the worst of which ended up in a deep scratch to her eye. She had to have a corneal graft done by a specialist vet to save her eye and the bill came to slightly more than £2000! On the other hand, I have a friend whose cat has never needed the vet in about 7 years.

Get the higher cover level. Glad we did when our year old kitten needed hip surgery costing £1800…

Oh, and we went with morethan who were very good. Check out topcashback as well, we got £70 cash back per policy.

No, £1000 is not enough by far. We are with Tesco and pay £11/month for 2 with a £3k limit per cat per injury.

Within the first month of ownership one cat got hit by a car and had a broken pelvis and hip that needed surgery. Spent a smidge off £3k straight away. 😯 . Tesco were very good and paid up immediately.
